Wherefore Art Thou Poe?

Why Poe?

Oh, let me count the ways…hmmm….all over the place literarily this evening.
What are your reasons why Edgar Allan Poe is a part of your being?

Because my mother shared him with me.

Because I could get good grades in English writing about my teacher’s favorite author.

Because even if you didn’t read the stories,
the Vincent Price and Peter Lorre movies were relevant.

Because a paperback copy of his complete works is affordable.

Because the hunt for a complete collection of his books,
with incredible illustrations,
is exhilarating.

Because he could get inside your brain…and under your skin
…and before you knew it, maybe even in your dreams…
in the guise of your greatest fear.

Because…even scarier…you want to write just like him.

Why Poe?

Why not?

LOL, Yes and it’s been a long time for me too, so I figure we’ll go all out and celebrate his birthday this month.

I remember reading some weird fictional book about Poe in the states, I think it even had one of the famous circus guys as a character. Not great fiction but nice to envision Poe living in his time. Haven’t read The Pale Blue Eye but I’m putting it on my wishlist now.
