Growing Art

I went into the business for the money, and the art grew out of it. If people are disillusioned by that remark, I can’t help it. It’s the truth.Charlie Chaplin

Yesterday in Choose the Right Motivation, we mentioned the word salary. I remember graduating high school many years ago and professing my dream to become a starving poet who lived in a cardboard box on the streets. Thank Edgar Allen Poe for that picture of a great writer who knew no returns on his writing while living. Would I die as unfulfilled?

The internet has created numerous opportunities for wannabe writers. Anyone can be “published” and many can be very happy making money writing web content, I know I’ve touched on this before. Many find themselves turning from dreams of creativity to an effort in futility to spin articles that are essentially worth a dime a dozen.

And…that is okay.

While the Edgar Allen Poe in any of us is tackling a writing business that pays, we can still nourish the creative side (okay, maybe that is just a good example for me, insert your own author there).

First, you have to tell me your author. Second, are you growing your art?
