Choose the Right Motivation

When an actor comes to me and wants to discuss his character, I say, ‘It’s in the script.’ If he says, ‘But what’s my motivation?’ I say, ‘Your salary.’

Do we need any more than that? I know we love to write and perhaps some of our musings are better left private however I think we would all raise our hands if asked “Who wants to get paid to write?”

Probably creative writing is the most challenging because we are striving hard to see returns on the back end of our efforts…unless we’ve been around the block and have been privy to offers of advances and the like…hmm…someday.
